Graduate Certificate in Organizational Leadership

The Graduate Certificate in Organizational Leadership is a 12-credit program designed to provide a theoretical and practical framework for professionals who currently hold leadership positions or are aspiring to leadership roles in organizations. The certificate program views leadership as a process and as such will emphasize practical application. While addressing leadership needs in both profit and nonprofit organizations, especially social service, business, government, education and manufacturing.

The certificate program is designed to meet the needs and schedules of working students and can be completed in one year by enrolling in one course per trimester, as well as the summer term. These credits can apply to the Master of Science in Organizational Leadership.

How to Apply

You can apply online for free or

  • Complete the graduate certificate application
  • Submit an official undergraduate transcript
  • Pay a $35 application fee
  • Attach a one-page essay outlining your educational expectations and career aspirations
  • Mail to: Office of Adult and Graduate Programs; Mercyhurst College; 501 E. 38th Street; Erie, PA 16546.

Start date

The Graduate Certificate Program accepts rolling admission, but encourages fall term applications. In order to complete the certificate in one year, students must register for one class each term. Winter and spring admissions are based upon availability of class space.

Eligibility

Individuals who have earned a baccalaureate degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA from an accredited institution in any field are eligible for admission. Consideration to those not meeting the GPA requirement will be given on a case by case basis.

Certificate Requirements

Nine credits (three courses) from among required course offerings as well as a three-credit elective are required to fulfill the certificate requirements.

Students select and complete all of the following (3 credits each):

  • Leadership: Theory and Practice
  • Organizational Ethics
  • Leadership & Organizational Behavior

Students select and complete one of the following electives (3 credits each):

  • Organizational Communications for Leaders
  • Law and Public Policy
  • Global and Cultural Perspective in Organizations
  • Entrepreneurial Leadership in U.S. Business History
  • Leadership Seminar in Organizing Communities and Public Policy
  • Gender Issues and Leadership
  • Internship
  • Marketing & Public Relations for Nonprofit Organizations
  • Human Resources and Volunteer Management
  • Financial Management of Nonprofit Organizations
